A Windows 95-style Minesweeper game in your browser

Open Minesweeper from the desktop shortcut or taskbar and play inside a recreated Windows 95-style window. The blue title bar, Game and Help menus, raised gray tiles, red digital counters, and yellow reset face bring back the classic desktop feel.

This is a responsive browser game inspired by the familiar Windows version. It is free to play and does not require a download, installation, or account.

How to play Windows Minesweeper

Left-click a covered square to reveal it. Right-click to place or remove a mine flag. On a touch screen, press and hold a covered square to flag it. Each number counts the mines in the eight surrounding squares, including diagonals; a blank square has no adjacent mines and opens a connected safe area.

Clear every square without a mine to win. Flags help track your deductions, but you do not have to mark every mine. When the flags around an open number match its value, click that number to reveal its remaining covered neighbors together; this move is called chording.

Choose Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert

Beginner uses a 9 × 9 board with 10 mines. Intermediate uses a 16 × 16 board with 40 mines. Expert uses a 30 × 16 board with 99 mines. Open the Game menu to change difficulty or start a new board; the smiley face starts another board at the selected difficulty.

The mine counter shows how many mines are on the board, and the timer starts with your first reveal. The first revealed square is protected from a mine.

A safe first move does not make every board guess-free

This version protects your first revealed square, but later positions can still call for a guess. That is normal in Minesweeper: random board layouts do not always provide a guaranteed logical move at every step.

Use the clues to prove what you can before taking a risk. If a 1 touches one covered square, that square is a mine. If a clue already has the number of flagged neighbors it shows, its other covered neighbors are safe.
